Street scenes from London - 1976 Tower Bridge, kasaan media,2022

London was London in those days in the summer of 1976. James Callaghan was Prime Minister, governing with a sense of proportion and for a united Europe.

It was the days of the monarchy in Britain, as it was every summer. Trooping the Colour was coming up. On 5 June that year. The High Commission of the South African Republic became a flashpoint against apartheid. The following days in Soweto already cast their shadow ahead to London. Today, the one policeman in front of the Prime Minister's residence in Downing Street looks rather ridiculous. It was a carefree time. But one of the hottest summers since weather records began in Britain.
